Oracle Cloud Free Tier signup guide (2026)
Oracle's Always Free tier — 2 ARM CPUs, 12 GB RAM, 200 GB storage, 10 TB egress — is the single best free-hosting deal on the internet. The signup flow, though, has a couple of foot-guns that make people bounce. Here's the shortest path from zero to a working tenancy.
Step 1 — Go to the signup page
Open signup.cloud.oracle.com. Use a personal email you actually check — the verification link expires in 30 minutes.
Step 2 — Pick your home region carefully
Your home region is permanent for the first 90 days and after that you get exactly one free swap. Pick a region that has:
- Good ARM Ampere availability — Frankfurt, London, Ashburn, Phoenix, and Amsterdam are the safest bets in 2026.
- Low latency to your users — pick the closest of the above.
- Data residency compliance — EU users, pick an EU region.
Step 3 — Match your credit card details exactly
The #1 signup failure: the name/address on the card doesn't match the account name/address. Type them character-for-character the same. Debit cards work but have a higher rejection rate; prefer a credit card if you have one.
Step 4 — Verify your phone number
Oracle sends an SMS. If you've used the number on a previous tenancy that got closed, this step fails silently — use a different number.
Step 5 — Wait for provisioning
Provisioning takes 10-15 minutes. You'll get a "Your Oracle Cloud account is ready" email. If it takes more than 2 hours, check your spam folder and then reach out to Oracle Cloud support chat — they respond fast.
Step 6 — Immediately screenshot your tenancy OCID
Profile → Tenancy: your-tenancy-name. Copy the OCID. You'll need it every time you deploy anything (including via Cheaploy). Save it in your password manager.

My signup was rejected — why?+
Two common reasons: (1) the name on the credit card doesn't match the account name exactly, and (2) the phone number was already used on another tenancy. Use a fresh phone number and matching card name, and it almost always goes through.
Which home region should I pick?+
The one geographically closest to your users AND where the ARM Ampere free capacity is currently available. Frankfurt, London, Ashburn, and Phoenix historically have better availability than smaller regions. Pick carefully — the home region can only be changed once and only after account age.
